Old Lighthouse Museum
Stonington, Connecticut

The museum is one of multiple historic properties owned and maintained by the Stonington Historical Society. Located in an historic granite lighthouse, it serves as the municipal museum and as an orientation center for visitors to the other properties. Despite its central role for the Society, the building was in need of a comprehensive rehabilitation, including handicap access and museum-appropriate environments for the exhibits.
Museum Insights developed a Strategic Facilities Plan for the Old Lighthouse Museum. The facility plan calls for a careful, historically sensitive, restoration of the lighthouse itself with the addition of a new visitor center with a handicapped accessible entrance, visitor orientation, accessible restrooms, and a relocated museum shop.
Museum Insights continued to act as museum consultants during architectural design process, working closely with by Oudens Ello Architects of Boston.
