Services

Museum Insights offers the following menu of services. Many services can build upon each other. We work closely with prospective clients to craft work plans that answer a museum’s most important planning questions and are within the museum’s budget. A simple plan, like a conceptual plan takes three to six months. A complex plan, like a comprehensive master plan takes six to twelve months. Fees range from $30,000 to over $100,000 depending on the specifics of each project.

Comprehensive Master Plans

A comprehensive master plan is a deep, robust process that begins with an assessment of the museum’s constituents and concludes with recommendations for the museum's next 15 to 20 years. The 6-12 month process includes constituent analysis, benchmarking, facility assessment, and the development of concepts and a business plan for the museum's future.

Benchmarking Studies

Benchmarking offers a museum a chance to take a closer look at how other museums operate. Studies focus on one aspect of museum operations, like collection policy, temporary exhibits, or public programs. Then, we conduct deep research, including interviews with museum staff, at selected institutions to make recommendations for a museum’s development.

Conceptual Museum Plans

Conceptual plans, including feasibility studies, create a plan for a new museum’s development or an established museum's growth, including key milestones. Our conceptual plans lay the groundwork for fundraising, work with exhibit developers, and expanding professional staff. Helping museums grow from an idea into a public institution is one of our specialities.

Pre-design Architectural Planning

Including site selection, space planning, and capital cost estimating. This work offers a foundation for a capital campaign, architect selection, and other steps necessary for a large-scale capital project. This work may be combined with Facility and Operations Analysis to review the museum's current operations and assess how the museum’s facilities meet current and future needs.

Operating and Business Plans

Museums thrive when they meet the needs of their constituents. Our business planning process is focused on understanding who the museum serves, their needs, and how serving a particular constituent group leads to outcomes that support both the museum’s mission and its bottom line.

Project Management

Benefit from Museum Insights’ work as facilitators and trusted experts to help select architects and exhibit designers and to support the museum’s team to work effectively with these professionals by providing reviews of their work, facilitating meetings, budgeting and expense control, and general project coordination.
